Server Settings

Satisfactory: Essential Server Settings Guide

Satisfactory's Server Settings allow you to configure your dedicated server's identity, security, performance, and gameplay behavior. This guide covers the most important settings for a stable, secure, and enjoyable multiplayer experience.

1. Server Identity

Customize your server name and description to help players identify and choose your server from the list.

2. Security & Access

Set strong admin and player passwords to protect your server from unauthorized access and griefers.

3. Performance Control

Manage auto-save frequency, restart intervals, and pause behavior to balance data safety with resource accumulation.

Core Server Settings

Server Identification

  • Server Name: The friendly name displayed in server browser (e.g., "My Awesome Factory"). Make it memorable for your friends.
  • Server Description: Detailed text shown when players hover over your server. Include rules, discord link, or server theme.
  • Session Name: The name of your actual save file/world. Changing this requires creating new save or uploading a different file.

Password Security

  • Admin Password: Required for changing server settings and administrative tasks. Use a strong, unique password you won't share with players.
  • Player Password: Optional password that all players must enter to join. Recommended for private servers to keep random players out.
  • Password Best Practices: Use uppercase, lowercase, numbers, and special characters. Avoid common words or obvious patterns.

Security Warning: Never share your Admin Password. Only the server administrator should know it. If a password is compromised, change it immediately in Server Settings.

Auto-Save Configuration

  • Auto-Save Interval: How often the server automatically saves progress (default: 5 minutes).
  • Save on Disconnect: Automatically save when any player disconnects from the server.
  • Recommended Settings:
    • Private Servers: 10-15 minutes for casual play
    • Public Servers: 5-10 minutes to handle multiple players
    • Production Focus: Longer intervals (15-30 min) for 24/7 factories with fewer interruptions

Auto-Restart Schedule

  • Restart Interval: Server automatically restarts every 24 hours by default. Choose a time when few players are online.
  • Warning Broadcast: Players receive 5-minute warning before automatic restarts, giving time to save progress.
  • Manual Restart: Restart server immediately to apply configuration changes or fix issues.
  • Recommended Timing: Set restarts for low-traffic hours (e.g., 3-5 AM or 10 AM - 12 PM local time).

Auto Pause Behavior

  • Pause When Empty: Automatically pause game simulation when no players are connected (default: ON).
  • Production Impact: When paused, production stops, preventing resource waste. When disabled, factory runs 24/7 accumulating resources.
  • Server Performance: Pausing saves server resources but prevents 24/7 production. Unpaused requires more monitoring for power stability.
  • Recommended: Keep enabled for casual servers. Disable only if you need resources to accumulate overnight.

Advanced Configuration

Network Quality

  • Quality Levels: Low (minimum bandwidth), Medium (balanced), High (maximum performance).
  • Performance Impact: Higher quality uses more bandwidth but provides smoother gameplay with less lag.
  • Bandwidth Requirements: High quality may use significant bandwidth for large factories with many players.
  • Recommended: Start with Medium quality. Increase to High only if players report lag issues.

Max Players

  • Default Limit: 4 players maximum for default Satisfactory servers.
  • Resource Impact: More players = more CPU, RAM, and network usage.
  • Large Servers: If hosting 6+ players, ensure your server plan has adequate CPU and RAM resources.
  • Factory Complexity: Reduce maximum players if running extremely complex factories to prevent server lag.

Telemetry Settings

  • Anonymous Data: Satisfactory collects anonymous gameplay statistics to improve the game.
  • Opt-In/Opt-Out: Players can choose whether to participate in data collection.
  • Server Impact: Minimal performance impact. Data collection is lightweight and runs in background.
  • Privacy: No personal information or IP addresses are collected. All data is aggregated anonymously.

Server Management

Player Administration

  • Kick Player: Disconnect a player from server immediately (they can rejoin unless banned).
  • Ban Player: Permanently prevent a player from joining the server.
  • When to Use Kicks: For disruptive behavior, to get player attention, or as temporary measure.
  • When to Use Bans: For griefing, cheating, repeated rule violations, or to protect community.

Session Management

  • Auto-Load Session: Server automatically loads the most recent or specified save file on startup.
  • Manual Load: Use Server Manager to select which save file to load from multiple available saves.
  • Upload Saves: Upload new save files to the server (see Upload Save guide).
  • Download Saves: Download save files for backup or editing (see Download Save guide).

Best Practices

Security Checklist

  • Strong Admin Password: At least 12 characters, mixed case, numbers, symbols
  • Player Password: Use for private servers to prevent unauthorized access
  • Password Rotation: Change admin password monthly or after security incidents
  • Backup Schedule: Enable auto-saves with short intervals (5-10 min) and configure backup retention (see Configure Backups)

Performance Optimization

  • Restart Timing: Schedule restarts during low-activity hours
  • Save Frequency: Balance between data safety and performance (don't over-save)
  • Player Limits: Set appropriate max players based on server resources
  • Regular Monitoring: Check server logs and performance metrics weekly

Community Building

  • Clear Rules: Document and enforce consistent server rules
  • Fair Administration: Apply kicks and bans consistently
  • Open Communication: Use description field to share server rules and contact information
  • Regular Updates: Keep server updated and inform players of planned changes

Pro Tip: Combine Server Settings with Advanced Game Settings for the ultimate customization. For example: No Build Cost + Flight Mode + God Mode creates a perfect creative sandbox environment for your community.
